If it's true that walls have ears, then the Cloche Hat at Chobham is a restaurant that must have heard many a secret.

For over 500 years, the walls of our building have listened to the sounds of laughter, softly muted endearments and gentle sighs of contentment as the smell of good food has drifted upwards towards the beams and hungry travellers have prepared to feast.

Toasts have been raised here down the centuries to battles and betrothals and excitements now long forgotten. Plots and plans, hopes and schemes have all been hatched beside our roaring fire...a huge, crackling affair that dances its light through a dozen claret glasses, defying even the most determined effort to do anything but relax.

And yet, though the cold ashes are swept away, the memories remain. The warmth of those who gathered here still lingers, creating a strangely familiar atmosphere to which many of todays visitors feel compelled to return
